Homemakers was formed in 2001 by Abergavenny and Crickhowell Friends of the Earth.
The project was first located at Bethany Chapel Market Street,
Abergavenny but relocated to St Michaels Rd in January 2005. In
September 2008 Homemakers expanded by sharing a building with
Replay (a local arts scrap store) in Ebbw Vale to complete the
the full re-use / recycling package offered to the Blaenau Gwent
area.
Homemakers operates in Monmouthshire and Blaenau Gwent and collects
from one household item up to a full house clearance with the aim of diverting as much as possible from landfill.
Homemakers diverts around 5 - 6 tonnes of waste per month from landfill.
Homemakers visits around 20 schools per year helping educate
around 800 children in the need to Recycle, Re-use and Reduce
our waste.
Homemakers work with many agencies and social service departments to provide furniture to people in unfortunate circumstances. Homemakers has also provided furniture to flood victims in Hull and Gloucester in recent years.
